About

The Network of Social Democracy in Asia (SocDem Asia) was founded in 2009 with the goal of creating a regional network of social democratic and progressive political parties for the free exchange of progressive ideas and policies and have a platform for support and cooperation among social democratic and progressive parties. Today, our network is the largest grouping of progressive political parties with 14 member-political parties from across 10 countries in the Asian region. SocDem Asia is also an associate member of the Progressive Alliance, the largest global network of social democratic and progressive political parties.

SocDem Asia helps to build and promote social democratic alternatives by deepening and broadening Asian social democratic discourse. Together we offer and develop just policies and showcase best practices of social democratic parties, politicians and movements. Our network provides platforms for exchange and trans-national cooperation to confront political challenges of today and to shape the future with progressive solutions.

To date, our network offers innovative programs for political education and training that caters to the young generation of leaders from among our member-parties who will form the future generation of progressive Asian leaders. We are also actively forging new partnerships and collaboration among Asian progressive parliamentarians and policymakers to push forward progressive reforms. Our network has its own publication that combines theory and practice by providing cogent analyses to inform our strategy for attaining power and the policy direction that should be adopted by Asian governments.
